Crazy Hair Day

Friday was a special day at Owairaka. It was Crazy Hair Day. We were fundraising for Leukemia Research. The children could opt to wear crazy hair styles.  All the classes went on stage for a parade. Four teachers had their hair " Shaved for a Cure". Mrs Mudgeway was particularly brave she had her long hair cut.

Next four teachers shaved their hair off.  (Tulsi)
They gave it to the poor people who had cancer. I was crying, her hair was long.
But she cut it.  She wanted to. ( Tabitha )

On Crazy Hair Day I saw a lot of kids have crazy hair. I have a colourful  wig.

Green Day Term 1

We all got stuck in digging the holes.

Then we got planting.

Here is our finished garden. We will keep watering the plants and watching them grow.

Discovery Time

One of the children's favourite times of the week is on Friday mornings when the children have Discovery Time.  We start of with a learning story to reinforce the values of sharing, taking turns, being persistent and being kind. The children get to move between four classrooms set up with a variety of activities they can creatively engage in.  One of the popular tables is the one that has: boxes, string, bottle tops, foam fabric, cartons of all shapes and sizes.

We would be very grateful if you could save any of this type of recyclable material and send it to school.

We have also had some parents bring materials and run activities. If you feel inspired you are most welcome to join us.
