Maui and The Sun

Te Ra - How Maui Slowed the Sun

In Room 11 we have been reading 'How Maui Slowed the Sun'.
We were inspired to create our own suns. We worked in teams to create our artworks.

We had to discuss then agree on our ideas before we drew our suns.
After that we used marker pen, crayon and dye to complete 'Te Ra'. When our suns were complete we worked together to write a sentence to go with it. We hope you enjoy our newest artwork!

Space

Room 11 has been learning about our Sun. We discovered how important the Sun is to us. The Sun gives us light and heat. It gives us night and day. The Sun gives us the seasons. It helps plants to grow, which provide food, shelter and clothing for us. We can not live without the Sun.

We all wrote some of the interesting facts we had learnt about the Sun. Then we created beautiful sun art works using paint and glitter. Have a look at our wonderful sun artworks and facts.

tThe Phases of the Moon

Room 11 has been learning about our moon. We leant that the moon does not create its own light, but reflects light from the Sun.

We wondered why the moon looks different in the night sky? We discovered that the moon orbits the Earth just like the Earth orbits the Sun. The Moon takes one month to orbit the Earth. The moon is always a ball shape but at different times of the month it appears bigger or smaller because of the moon being partly in shadow. We learnt that this is called the phases of the Moon.

We had a go at showing the Phases of the Moon using Oreo cookies. This was lots of fun! Then we had a go at making posters showing the different phases of the Moon.

Why don't you have a look at your night sky and see if the moon is new, full, waxing or wanning.
